Can a Christian have a demon?

Ask Jesus If he meant "It Is Finished" or is the cross of no effect?

“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”John 19:30

“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”1 Corinthians 1:17

“Don't ask whether you can have one”

“don't ask whether you can have one or not ask why you acting like one why are you motivated in that area to move like one that's the question” · 21 seconds

“Are you a born again Christian and think you may have possibly opened a door to a demon by something you did, or perhaps that a sin or practice committed by an ancestor has transferred to you by the bloodline, and now you fear you may have a demon?

Well I have great news for you, today is the beginning of the end of your concerns, your worries and perhaps even the anxiety you have been experiencing. You are about to have the truth revealed, and when you know the truth, when you know Jesus, (again I repeat myself), you will be made free, totally and wholly free (spirit, soul and body).”

David Smithey

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”1 Thessalonians 5:23

“This is what Jesus said and now I will tell you what he meant. And what he meant was what he said. So simple isn’t it? He meant that he is the truth and if you want a relationship with truth you are going to have to go through him, you have to go to Jesus because he is truth. There is no other way, no matter how much other people may try to persuade you.”

David Smithey, on John 8:32

Where the question comes from

The serpent asked the first dividing question

“So regarding the topic of “whether or not a Christian can have a demon” I propose looking back at who framed this question because the very essence of the question is designed to divide us, to separate us into two camps. The one that says yes they can and the one that says no they can not. Who would possibly devise such a question and perpetuate it? we only need to go back to the beginning.

Looking back we find that living in agreement with God, also known as obedience to his every word, was the only way to remain in paradise for Adam and Eve. But then the serpent asked Eve a dividing question, he asked her if God had said what she believed was his word. Remember he posed the question “Did God say?”

So before we entangle ourselves with the serpent’s question, “Can a Christian Have a Demon”, a question that divides the body of Christ, let's find our common ground in the faith beginning with the question “what is a demon?”. And let us reason together from there.”

Four places in the Bible

What the Bible records, from Genesis to the letters to the churches.

  1. Saul is oppressed, not possessed

“no person not one person under the old Covenant or in the Old Testament is found to be demon-possessed like what we see in the gospels … you hear about Saul who's oppressed right and David has to play you know the harp or whatnot but he's not possessed he's oppressed”
    Hear it · Part 3 at 40:48

  2. Still the Old Covenant

“remember Matthew Mark and Luke that's all old Covenant everybody that Jesus cast devils and demons out of didn't have the Holy Spirit living inside of them”
    Hear it · Part 1-2 at 46:33

  3. It is finished. The old man dies.

“look when you get born again you don't get a devil cast out of you you die as a devil period because the Bible says you have to die why are you dying if something's getting cast out of you”
    Hear it · Part 1-2 at 47:00

  4. Delivered to Satan, never of a spirit

“never once was there anybody being delivered of an evil spirit they were always delivered to Satan because they weren't listening they were delivered to Satan not from Satan in the church” (1 Corinthians 5:5)
    Hear it · Part 3-2 at 53:50

What lives in you now

“When you gave your life to Jesus, that fire consumed the old man. It consumed every demonic thing that you were a part of. It consumed everything. Don't let nobody lie to you. All the fullness of God is living on the inside of you.”

“The deceiver is used as a tool that will attempt to chip away at our armor, grinding and eating away at our flesh if he can [Gen 3:14], he is trying to get into our heads, doing anything to put darts through our faith [Eph 6:13-17] and he won’t stop until we are established in Christ [Eph 4:13], so that in Christ we will remain hidden [Col 3:3] because the devil cannot touch [1 John 5:18] what he cannot see, so we benefit by keeping ourselves in the truth [2 Cor 13:5], God sees spirit and encourages his children to walk in it [Gal 5:16], to manifest the fruit of it. [Gal 5:22] The devil sees flesh and suggests you walk in it, walk with him and thereby manifest the works of it, manifest his works [Gal 5:19-21]. The word says the seed (spirit) of Christ remains in you [1 John 3:9], the devil suggests he has some of his seed (spirit(s) in you [Gen 3:15].”

David Smithey

“There is no ἐν δαιμονίοις in Scripture. Nobody abides in demons. Nobody is complete in them. Nobody has them and is thereby given anything. The vocabulary does not exist, and its absence is not accidental.”

“Demons are heeded; Christ is indwelt.”

Questions people ask

Answered From The Word

Are demons real?

“Pete are you saying that there is no Devils demons or evil spirits my answer I am NOT saying [that]” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Master Trainer, 0:57

“Now, the demonic is very real. And the job of the demonic is to confuse. It's to confuse. You hear me out. It's to deceive. It's to trick. It's to lie.” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Part 2-2, 27:58

What about believers who cough, scream or shake when they are prayed for?

“The deliverance ministry completely appeals to our human emotions and our very strong natural instinct to believe what we see and hear. The stronger the experience the more it is believed, and this is where the error is given life. The carnal mind is reawakened and the weak conscience of believers without a strong foundation in the doctrine of Christ is exploited. And it is a very compelling experience to be sure.” — David Smithey

“there's a difference between acting like one and having one” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Part 2, 44:40

Is any born-again believer in the Bible delivered of a demon?

“you will not find a scripture of any Christian any Christian in the Bible who had Deliverance performed on them anywhere nowhere will you find that a born-again Believer is having a demon cast out of him” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Part 1-2, 45:52

If what a spirit says is true, does it matter where it came from?

“Every word she said was accurate. Paul cast the spirit out anyway. The problem was not the content — the content was orthodox. The problem was the source. Scripture treats demonic origin as disqualifying even when the propositions check out.” — David Smithey, The Demons’ Own Teachings, on Acts 16:16-18

So what is deliverance?

“so how do you get a demon out of somebody how do you get a devil out of somebody you get the lie out of him” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Master Trainer, 50:15

“i believe in deliverance i believe that the word ministered the right way would deliver … it's a process that we that we learn in christ we learn to walk out deliverance because we're constantly being delivered it's called salvation” — Pete Cabrera Jr, Part 18, 2:12:07

“There is only one man who delivers and that is the Lord Jesus Christ, and he delivers you from sin. Don't forget the cross, and lean not unto your own understanding, lest you be removed from grace and walk in the lie and any teaching that encourages the manifestation of it.” — David Smithey

What do I do with the thoughts that keep coming back?

“Put away thoughts of failure, of anger, and of all those who have hurt you. Now see how many times you think of them after you have purposed to put them away and agree with Gods word. Almost immediately they will come back. You will say what is wrong with me why can’t I let this go? Well the truth is you did. If you don’t want theses things anymore then those thoughts can’t possibly be yours. … When the thought comes just laugh and say whatever would be an opposing thought. If you hear I hate her, she did this, say I love her and she is also learning and growing, God has forgiven me of everything, so I will continue to forgive her. You are training your soul in the truth and the truth will make you free.” — David Smithey

How did Jesus overcome the devil?

“If we want to know how Jesus overcame the devil, then we need to understand why Jesus said that it is by becoming dependent upon every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [Matt 4:4]” — David Smithey
